THE STATE OF THE NATION

Due to my interests in the events that transpired in the history of Nigeria, I read the book: ‘There was a country by Chinua Achebe. May His gentle soul rest in peace. Amen. It gave insights on the affairs of the country;  how the British colonials ruled us and the civil war that happen which made things never the same again, our country has been a cause of concern to both the citizens and international communities.

How do we explain that a country rich in mineral resources, a good weather and wonderful soil for agriculture has its citizens as one of the poorest in the world? This has created a huge gap between the rich and poor; creating such dichotomy is not safe, since it turns the unfortunate ones into monsters which in turn will affect the so-called rich ones.

How do we tell our children that a country which has enough food to feed its citizens has many languishing in hunger and malnutrition?

What is the best way to explain that a country has lawmakers that earn bogus salary and allowances that can pay thousands of professors and equip our hospitals, but it seems good to them since they make laws rhat protect their greedy interests.

How will I tell my children that peaceful protesters with the Nigerian flag who were singing the National anthem were fired which resulted to loss of lives and injuries?

I am glad that a new Nigeria is emerging and it is happening before my very eyes; I am proud of this generation. The youths have risen to take their destiny from vultures and devourers. We want a Nation where: ‘a child of nobody can become somebody.’

We want a Nation where our youths are not oppressed by the system but rather one that creates a better Nigeria for us all. We should now become more politically aware, it is no more business as usual, and our leaders must be accountable and ensure visible performance of their duties, anyone who fails in this regard should get ready to leave office or resign.

It is no more time for blame games, it is time for rebuilding our Nation where human lives and rights are respected for all citizens, we know the police has failed woefully in this regard which sparked up the ‘End SARS’ protest, a set of people that devoured that citizens like wolves instead of protecting them, which they do by tagging one forcefully with a bad name..

The power lies in the people to change the system, I pray for a change in thinking for the ones who are still loyal to our oppressive opponents, whose consciences have been caged with money.

I pray for our youths who have realized the issues of our Nation will not let their hearts be captivated by greed and selfish desires, we have to shun religious sentiments and tribalism, and we have to live by example and the demands we fought for.

Nigeria will be an Icon not just for Africa but for the whole continent, we would be proud the colour of our skin and heritage and never feel inferior to anyone.

Our children will enjoy a good system and pass it down to generations to come; the day our youths were massacred, 20th of October, 2020 will be remembered as an independence day, which is freedom from political oppression and economic slavery. We are rising to greatness, join the train.

God bless our country, God bless the good people of Nigeria.
