TRIALS IN LIFE...
The vicissitudes of life are bound to occur in the life of every man, they are commonly called the ups and downs of life. One good example is the biblical Job who went through a lot of toils and sufferings that he even cursed the day he was born. (cf. Job 3:1).
Our attitude to the situations that happen around us and how we react to events directed at us is indeed very important, our minds should be prepared that as we go through this journey, obstacles are bound to be on the way. However our perception matters, we should see them with eyes of positivity knowing that we have all it takes to overcome them and grow higher in the phases of life.
It is very remarkable to note that we should watch our thoughts for they are what patterns our life and define our directions via the different phases of life. (cf. Prov. 23:7)
When we appreciate life we will bear our afflictions with a good attitude. There is a story of a man who was involved in a ghastly motor accident, in the collision, a family of five died. The man who was in the other vehicle became unconscious and was taken to the hospital, later he realized that one of his arms was amputated, he was depressed and he thought of committing suicide. One day, he went to the top floor in an attempt to end his life of misery, when he looked down he saw a man without arms shaking his body as if he was dancing, this caught his attention and he immediately came down and asked the man without arms; “why are you dancing even when you have no arms?’’ The man replied: “my back was itching me and since I have no hands to scratch my back, I was shaking my body and not dancing as you thought.’’ The man then realized that he was in a better condition than someone else.
This also applies to a little boy who complained bitterly that he wanted a new pair of shoes, when his mother took him to the market he saw a boy without feet and this made him feel so sorry for the boy and had a changed attitude towards getting a new pair of shoes.
We all have our own peculiar crosses in life to carry, St. James rightly puts it this way, "count it all joy, my brethren, when you meet various trials’’ cf. Jas 1:2.
The stumbling blocks on the way cannot stop you from achieving the ideas that God has placed in your heart. There is a saying that: “If you want to succeed double your failure rate’’ -Thomas J. Watson.
You do not have to see
failure as a bad omen; rather see it as an opportunity to do better.
They are good capsules for growth.
