RAPE...an evil we must fight
During my internship as a pharmacist, I was posted to a community health center, I experienced my first case report of a young lady who was raped. Reports have it that she went on an errand, probably she was made unconscious while the perpetrators of the vicious act made their way. I felt for this young lady, because she could become a victim of HIV/AIDS, and possibly unwanted pregnancy.
Well, it is necessary to define what rape is.
Rape is a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual penetration carried out against a person without that person's consent. The act may be carried out by physical force, coercion, abuse of authority, or against a person who is incapable of giving valid consent, such as one who is unconscious, incapacitated, has an intellectual disability or is below the legal age of consent. The term rape is sometimes used interchangeably with the term sexual assault.
It is necessary to point out that is not gender discriminatory, both a male or female can be perform such dastardly act.
Some time ago, a pastor was called out for being a rapist, and now the cases are rising this period, popular among them is late Uwaila. May her gentle soul rest in peace. Not only was she raped, she was murdered. What a double tragedy. Sorry, a triple tragedy, she died in the church. Have we lost our sanity? Don't we have fear for God?
There is saying by Pope St Felix IIIand I quote:
“Not to oppose error is to approve it; and not to defend truth is to suppress it, and, indeed, to neglect to confound evil men—when we can do it—is no less a sin than to encourage them"
I know many are seriously against rape, but the fact remains, what measure are we putting in place to stop such malicious act.
One evil that our society has widely promoted is PORNOGRAPHY, this has eaten deep into the fabrics of our society.
Information from National Center on Sexual Exploitation’s Pornography and Public Health Research Summary shows this:
“[Porn] consumption was indeed associated with sexual aggression in the United States and internationally, among males and females, and in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies. Associations were stronger for verbal than physical sexual aggression, although both were significant. The general pattern of results suggested that violent content may be an exacerbating factor.”
Let us take this practical step to educate our youths and loved ones on the dangers of pornography, when taught they will have a better orientation to fight this evil.
There may be no quick fix to end this scourge of rape, some blame it on the drugs, dressing, family background. Well, we just need to sanitize our society. By fellow men, "Erection should not determine Direction ".Everyone should be disciplined. We need the help of God to fight this evil. Let us really find the cause of this evil and and deal with it. Justice should be meted on every class of citizen. The poor and rich.
I sympathize with all the rape victims out there.
Say No to Rape!
