MENTOR

For someone to make progress in his mission, it is very important to seek direction in what he or she does.

During our final year project in the University, we were assigned supervisors who will guide us to make the best out of the research since they have the experience to guide us. Again, after spending 5 years in pharmacy school, we still needed to undergo one year compulsory internship under a certified preceptor before we could have our license to practise, this is because, there is need for training and mentorship. This happens not only in the professional world, but also in the business world.

For an entrepreneur to be successful in his business, he needs to seek guidance fro those who have gone ahead of him in the field to be able to surmount the challenges when they present themselves.

A good mentee has to know that a mentor may be so busy and occupied, and thus should be proactive in sourcing out the needed information to succeed.

I was listening to Jack Ma talks online,he is the co-founder of Ali Baba, one of the world's biggest e-commerce platform, and he pointed out the need to learn from people's mistakes. He also noted that when we listen to many success stories, our mind is geared up to start up something, but the fact is that people who became successful had made some mistakes which me may not know.

For a Catholic priest to be ordained, it may take about 16 years of formation, starting from Junior seminary. This shows you how important is the need to be trained.

Joshua had to learn from Moses, Elisha had to learn from Elijah , and the Apostles had to be with Jesus and learn from Him before being sent out for the mission.

Choosing the right mentor is vital in making progress in your chosen field of study, business or a personal goal.

A good mentor has a desire to help others succeed, a willingness to pass along information, a desire to work with others, good listening and communication skills, good ethics, patience and empathy.

A good mentee should have a willingness to learn about themselves,should be serious with the commitment, respect of people's time and effort, openness and honesty.

The qualities required are not limited to these ones.
